The World, Gold Goddess

Last year there was so much hype about "stuff" it seemed. Who had the newest phone, the most followers on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or the like, the newest jewels, face or boobs, the world it seemed has become so "gaudy" and "tacky" with...things. Building ourselves to be Gods. Why? Are we not that special as we are?... as humans? What's wrong with being human I wonder? Nothing. The human life is precious in it's imperfection and limitations. I think being human is beautiful and unlike anything so rewarding without it's ups and downs to give us true joy and strength. Somewhere I read in an ancient legend there was a Goddess that cried because she wished she could feel as humans do, the short and precious human existence wasn't precious or loved by those who owned it. It started to get to me. It seemed like so many were searching for the greener pastures, the gold, the rainbow, the peace, the perfect job, perfect friends, or image, or party. But life was right there in front of them, perfect already. So to me, this was the perfect time and way to create the dis-illusioned image of the world today. And though "the world" thought she finally had riches and gold, and fame and friends, that she was happy, but then why...why was she sad?

This was a full face mask and cardboard triangles that I reinforced with MORE cardboard to hold it all together. It's pretty heavy considering it sits on the front of your face and not on top of your head. This was my cheapest mask to date and only cost $15 for the gold spray paint and the gems. The biggest consumer was my time. I spent about a week getting the reinforced pieces made and another couple of days putting in all in place. Considering it's simple parts it was alot of work. Next time I do something like this I'll pray it in plasti-dip to get rip of the cardboard lines. All and all, I'm thrilled with the surprise it gave me, as it seemed to create itself so easily.
